HEDIS Education and Training Options for FQHCs

Prepping your FQHC to win at Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) measures can be challenging, but education and training can go a long way in smoothing your journey. (If you're interested in learning how to prepare for HEDIS measures at your FQHC, this post will help.)

The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), the organization that develops HEDIS measures, offers a rich selection of educational and training options to help get your critical team members up to speed. Here are a few courses we suggest for FQHCs:

Introduction to HEDIS

These on-demand modules are self-paced and provide a comprehensive review of foundational HEDIS topics, including terminology, the audit compliance process, a review of HEDIS data tools and resources, as well as HEDIS clinical and survey measures. This program is best suited for someone who’s new to HEDIS and responsible for gathering, analyzing, assessing, or reporting HEDIS data. These titles should consider signing up:

  • Quality Improvement Managers/Directors
  • HEDIS Data Analysts
  • HEDIS Program Managers/Directors
  • Clinical Audit Coordinators

Patient-Centered Medical Home CCE Webinars

These quarterly on-demand webinars are geared toward Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Certified Content Experts (CCE) and offer maintenance of certification credits. Topics include:

  • Building Blocks of an Individual Care Plan
  • Chronic Care Management
  • Leveraging the Medical Neighborhood
  • Practice Transformation & QI

Accreditation of Case Management

Another on-demand option, this module is designed for organizations preparing for the new Accreditation of Case Management for Long-Term Services and Supports (CM-LTSS). It offers a presentation of key requirements, and participants should expect to walk away with an increased ability to apply those requirements at their home organizations, as well as a better understanding of the NCQA Accreditation process. Recommended attendees include:

  • Quality Improvement Managers and Directors
  • CEO/COOs
  • Care Management/Care Coordination Supervisors and Directors
  • Case Managers and Directors

Population Outreach

This module (also on demand) pivots on the PCMH and population health. It covers strategies to deliver preventive care and includes best practice examples. Attendees should expect to gain knowledge around planning and structuring the effective delivery of wellness and preventive services, creating triggers, reach-out, rooming processes, and more. This module is recommended for the following attendees:

  • Primary Care Practice Teams
  • Physicians
  • Nurses
  • Transformational Leaders
  • PCMH Certified Content Experts

As your team increases their competence around HEDIS measures, consider joining the HEDIS User Group (HUG). You’ll find information on new developments, gain valuable insight into the HEDIS process, and will have an opportunity to engage with HEDIS professionals themselves.
